Dear baby boy,
A year ago today you came into the world! While in ways it feels like yesterday, we have had 365 days with you and have made many wonderful memories. Your laugh and smile are contagious, you are happy, and you have an easy-going, fun personality already.
Someday you’ll hear all about 2023, the first year of your beautiful life. It was one that your Daddy and I will always remember. Someday you’ll know the huge impact you had on me, and how even as a tiny baby, you were my reminder of God’s love and faithfulness. The specific songs we listened to in the NICU, songs that I thought I needed for that time, were actually ones we needed for our first year together and for our family.
I will never forget the first moment I held you and your eyes looked into mine. There was something about that bond that was stronger than I’ve ever felt. Even as they took you to the NICU, I remember crying and not wanting you to go. But you didn’t cry. You looked at me, and it was as if you said, “I’ll be ok, Mama. We will be ok.” I remember that. And every time I’ve looked at you, through each day and month of 2023, I’ve remembered that. God has us no matter what, and He is good.
Happy birthday, Layken James. We are so excited to celebrate you today!
